The Trans-border Grizzly Bear Project (Birchdale Ecological) an International group of biologists working to recover the trans-border threatened South Selkirk and South Purcell/Yahk grizzly bear populations. Both these populations are legally designated as threatened by the Province of British Columbia and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Our goal is to use science to understand conservation challenges and implement our researched solutions for grizzly bears in the Trans-border southern Selkirk and Purcell Mountains of British Columbia, Northwest Montana, and North Idaho.
What we do:
- Apply relevant local scientific research on grizzly bear biology as it relates to management and conservation
- Translate our research results into workable management actions
- Integrate the ideas of local people
- Stimulate implementation of these management plans
Organization Mission
To carry out scientific research related to the conservation problems and
solutions of the small fragmented grizzly bear population units in southeast BC. Also to
develop and implement conservation management plans derived from our science‐based
approach.
