The Eastshore Freshwater Habitat Society is a newly formed Society for Habitat on the Eastshore of the Kootenay Lake. Their Water Plan is from Murphy creek north to Drewry Pt. south. (see map). Their goal is to strive to protect wildlife, fisheries and conservation by assisting in the remediation of all rivers, creeks, streams and lakes on the Eastshore that are tributaries to Kootenay Lake.

The Eastshore Freshwater Habitat Society focuses on the East shore of Kootenay Lake from Murphy Creek north to Drewry Point. They will engage community members in an effort to adopt responsible angling methods. Their first major project is to reintroduce Kokanee back into the east side of Kootenay Lake’s tributaries.

What role should the BC government play?

Effective land use and resource use planning and management are required for healthy ecosystems and maintaining healthy ecosystems requires an adaptive management approach to parks, protected areas and wildlife. The BC Green Party supports responsible resource development that will not cause permanent harm to ecological systems.
